I myself am a curvaceous woman, and have never had the kind of body shape that meant I could put on any swimsuit and look great. In fact I didn’t go near a pool for years as I didn’t feel confident in a swimsuit. But when the opportunity presented itself to learn to swim properly (as in front crawl and wearing goggles), I took the plunge.

But I soon realised that being horizontal in water, flailing my arms and legs about and sometimes attempting to dive in required a swimsuit with a little bit more thought and engineering than the item I had purchased on my local high street. Breasts that felt like they were dragging along the bottom of the pool or worse popping out the sides of the swimsuit did nothing for my technique, comfort, and especially my confidence.

The more I talked to fellow female swimmers and searched for the ideal swimsuit for myself, the more I realised the problem of finding swimwear that aided swimming instead of hindering the experience, was a real problem. Having the body confidence to get in a pool was a significant factor for many ladies, whether they wanted to be a bit more covered up or needed more support.

Hence the current UK Swim Store website was born. An online shopping experience that offers women of all shapes and sizes the opportunity to purchase swimwear designed for real figures. I personally select swimsuits from the world’s best manufacturers that incorporate the features women want in their swimwear. This includes bust support, but with out under wires. As much as I love support in swimwear, wires in a bathing costume are just far too uncomfortable to swim in. Therefore the costumes we sell have support in the form of bust shaping or mesh bust shelves / linings.

Other features include legged suits that offer more coverage and modesty for ladies. We attempt to offer legsuits that have varying leg heights to appeal to all shapes and have even commissioned a longer leg length legsuit that stops just above the knee.

I am always on the look out for swimwear that offers more coverage, or closed backs, varying leg heights and bust sizes. Our sizes range from size 8 to size 22 and we will be expanding that size range in the future.
