Chlorine Resistant Swimwear Offers Longevity

Chlorine is a necessity for the sanitation of busy public swimming pools, killing off a multitude of potentially dangerous bacteria. However, chlorine is itself a hazardous chemical. One of the consequences of frequent swimming in chlorinated water is swimwear degradation, which can be both annoying and costly.

Standard swimwear fabrics do not offer the level of resilience to chlorine needed by anyone who regularly swims; it wears, becomes thin, loses elasticity and shape, and often fades unrecognisably. The loss of elasticity is probably the most frustrating aspect for swimmers; having found the perfect-fitting costume, it quickly becomes less comfortable, less flattering, less supportive. Most standard contemporary swimwear contains Lycra® (AKA Spandex), which gives it its elasticity. But Lycra® is badly affected by regular chlorine exposure, and hence the swimsuit quickly loses its shape. For frequent swimmers, something more robust is the answer.

Modern swimwear fabric technology has addressed the issue, producing durable swimwear that can better withstand the ravages of chlorinated water. Rather than relying on Lycra® for elasticity, PBT is used. PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) is a polyester with a natural two-way stratech that has far greater chlorine resilience. Arguable, it is not as fully stretchy as Lycra®, but the benefits of swimwear longevity surely outweigh this for real women who love to swim!

UK Swim Store is pleased to offer a great choice of high quality chlorine resistant swimwear, at very competitive online prices. We have the exclusive Bohn range, Maru Pacer, and Speedo Endurance to choose from.
