Trying On Swimwear - Getting The Best Fit For You
If you are looking for a swimsuit that makes you feel comfortable and confident in the water and that you can properly swim in, without it moving about or your bust falling out or the straps falling off your shoulder, then never go for a swimsuit that is too big.
If you are in-between sizes, go down to the smaller size. Some swimwear material can grow slightly in water, so a swimsuit will never get tighter when you step into the pool. Also if a swimsuit is too big, you can get bagging and the material flapping around, which just makes the whole thing look wrinkly and unattractive.
Once your swimsuit has arrived in the post, and before you go near a pool, try it on, keeping all the labels and hygiene strips on and keeping your underwear on.
See how the swimsuit feels when you move about. Jump up and down, move your arms in a swimming motion, to see if the straps stay in the right place. Bend and stretch in the suit to see the full movement of the suit and how comfortable it feels. Doing these exercises will help you know before you get in the water (and swimsuits that have been worn in the water are no refundable, unless faulty), that this particular swimsuit is the one for you.
If the swimsuit is too big you could create an annoying drag in the pool, or even worse I billowing effect where the water is sucked down into the front of the swimsuit.
All swimsuits have stretch in their fabric, so there is a lot of give in most swimsuits, so you shouldn’t need to go a size up.
Most sizing from swimwear manufacturers is in a bust measurement, eg 34" bust. At UK Swim Store, we have given each bust measurement an equivalent dress size. This is only a rough guide, as all body shapes are different and every size 12 women is a slightly different shape from top to bottom, but the dress size measurement should help you in selecting the right size.
If you are unsure of your size, you can order more than one size of a swimsuit and send back the one that does not fit. Please make sure you suit is in the same condition it arrived in to you, when you send it back. Please see our full Returns Policy before sending back a swimsuit.
